In the US today, over 58 million people are living with arthritis. This makes it the single biggest cause of disability in the country. While many believe it to be an inevitable symptom of aging and that they will be uncomfortable, there is a lot more that living with arthritis can affect.
Arthritis can cause:
- Joint pain and swelling
- Reduced mobility and physical weakness
- Fatigue and trouble sleeping
These symptoms and more can greatly affect your everyday life and overall wellbeing. This was true for our founder and creator of the Uccello Kettle, Andy De Petra.
Our Founder & Creator:
Italian born master craftsman, Andy, was passionate in everything he put his mind to. Arriving on the shores of Perth, Australia (when he was 6 years of age) with is family in 1952. Andy brought with him a flair for invention.
From an early age, Andy, had an eye for innovation and creativity. Before the Uccello Kettle, Andy had his own cleaning business where his vertical blind cleaner took center stage.
It wasn’t until 2011 that Andy had unfortunately been diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis that his thoughts turned towards a new creation.
You see, being Italian, Andy always had a love for fine coffee. It was part of his morning ritual and something he very much enjoyed. Sadly, with his arthritis, it made it difficult to fill, lift and pour a kettle, so his morning bliss was thwarted.
This got him thinking, he can’t be the only one out there with this issue? Arthritis can cause weakness in the arms, hands and fingers, how do people manage to maintain their independence in the kitchen?
Enter the Uccello Kettle:
After searching the market for an option to help, he came home empty handed each time. It’s time he took matters into his own hands.
With many daily living aids or assistive living aids out there, Andy didn’t want to create something that focused purely on function. He was a lover of Italian design standards and knew he could marry both form and function together for his idea.
The Uccello Kettle, not only looks good. It tilts safely to deliver boiling hot water without causing any unwanted pressure and weight on the user. With its fluid ‘power-pour‘ technology. The kettle has a uniquely designed pendulum arc of forward motion, which remarkably resembles a small bird. This is where the Uccello gets its name. ”Uccello” means bird in Italian.
It’s been 9 years since Uccello Kettle was created. We are honored to be able to carry on Andy’s legacy of helping to make peoples lives easier one cup of tea at a time.
